Beetroots are used as kvass base in this recipe. Moreover, they are a nutritious veggie that can be used in various homemade remedies. They are beneficial for detoxifying and molecular binding for toxin elimination. They are also useful for purifying the blood and cleansing the kidneys and liver. They can also help improve digestion.
Furthermore, in Russia, kvass is typically made with stale rye bread. Like any other drink or food, kvass is prepared in multiple ways in different regions. Beet kvass is usually used in vinaigrettes, soups, and borscht.
Here Is Why You Should Consume Beet Kvass:
The beetroot is transformed into kvass during the fermentation process, which increases its nutritional profile and provides it with healthy enzymes and probiotic bacteria that can enhance your gut health. That’s not all, this can also help your body absorb the nutrients from the foods you consume.
Drinking 4 ounces of beet kvass 2 times daily helps improve your digestion, purify and alkalize your blood, cleanse your liver, and more. It also acts as an incredible natural remedy for kidney stones and many other health problems.
Homemade Beet Kvass Recipe
Preparing your own beet kvass is very simple. Namely, it only takes several minutes. However, you should leave it to ferment for a few days.
- 1/2 gallon glass jar
- Purified water
- 1 tbsp. of Himalayan salt
- 4 organic beetroots
- Ginger, orange, lemon or spices
This recipe makes about 6 servings of beet kvass.
Wash the beets thoroughly and leave the skin on. Next, chop them into small cubes and place them in the bottom of the jar.
Then, start filling the jar with the water. But, make sure you leave about an inch of space at the top of the jar. Afterwards, add the salt and the other ingredients.
Use a cheesecloth, cloth, or towel to cover the top of the jar. Also, you should use a rubber band to secure the cloth.
Next, allow it to ferment at room temperature for about 3-5 days. Monitor it every day and eliminate any sum that appears on the top.
Your homemade beet kvass is ready once you notice it has a deep, red color and fizzy bubbles along the top of the beverage. Close the jar with lid and keep it in the fridge to allow it to continue fermenting.
How to Use It:
When the tonic is ready, you should take about 3-4 ounces 2 times on a daily basis in order to promote regular bowel movements, improve digestive health, and detoxify your body (especially your kidneys and liver).
